The trumpet is the smallest member of the brass family and is considered a high brass instrument. The sound on trumpet is produced by buzzing into a small mouthpiece. Trumpet class is large and we usually start 15-20 students in each class.

Physical Characteristics: Many students gain braces while in their middle school years, and we can assure you that it is absolutely possible to play trumpet well, even with braces. It will take a little while to get used to, but is ultimately fine. A slight overbite is okay, but an underbite can make it much more difficult to play. Great trumpet players come in all shapes and sizes but a thin upper lip can prove to help with success.

Other Considerations: Trumpet parts usually have the melody (recognizable) part, therefore students who choose and are selected for trumpet should exhibit a confident demeanor, strong personality, and demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and work ethic.
